Sessions waffles on a special counsel to probe Clinton and the Trump dossier

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday said he wasn’t entirely sold on appointing a special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton’s and the FBI’s possible role in the preparation of a salacious dossier on Donald Trump.

“’Looks like,’ not enough basis to appoint a special counsel,” he told the House Judiciary Committee.

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, a conservative Republican, had peppered Sessions with allegations that Clinton, then-FBI director James Comey and the Democratic party conspired to undermine Trump.

“We know the Clinton campaign, the Democrat National Committee, paid for through the law firm, paid for the dossier. It sure looks like the FBI was paying the author of that document and it sure looks like a major political party was working with the federal government” to damage Trump, Jordan said.

“That’s what it looks like,” he added, prompting Sessions reply.
