Hundreds of pupils were on Tuesday 24 October 2017 seen helplessly standing under the sun with the bags and lunch packs in hand along Patton Street in front of Regmel Preparatory School, after being evicted from the land housing the school.
The property at 8 Patton Street belongs to Agatha Pratt but was occupied by Regina Martyn, a Proprietor of Regmel Preparatory School for years now with an agreement to be paying rent.
The majority of the parents said they have paid either part or full school charges to enable their children acquire the required education at the said school, but were surprised to received phone calls asking them to the rescue of the children outside the school compound.
Documents unearthed by this medium revealed Regina Martyn made an undertaking to vacate the said premises and delivered to Counsel C.F. Edwards who was the solicitor of Agatha Pratt on or before 31 July 2013 after payment of all the rents.
Also a six month Notice to Quit was issued to Martyn dated 22 December 2016 asking her to vacate the premises after payment of all rent arrears. The Notice was to take effect on the 1 January 2017 meaning she should vacate the premise by the end of June 2017 but failed to do.
Following this, an Ejectment Notice was also served on her to vacate the premise on 30 June 2017 within four days upon receipt of the Notice, which she also failed to do.
In a Motion filed in the Court, Counsel representing Martyn informed the Court they are not challenging the Motion but are asking for more time be given for her to refurbish a premise to relocate the School which had been in operation for 20 years.
But the ruling delivered on Monday 23 October 2017 was quashed in Court and gave the rightful owner of the property to take control.
Parents are now left wondering as to where to locate their children for this academic year for them not to be left out.
