Auckland schoolboy rugby game finishes early following brawl

An Auckland First XV schoolboy rugby game was abandoned on Saturday following a nasty brawl.

The game between Aorere College and St Peter's College played at Aorere College was called off in the second half after a fight broke out, NZME reported.

It is understood it was a clean first half between the two sides, but tempers flared during the second half.

College Sport and the Auckland Rugby Union have confirmed an incident occurred and the game was to go before the judicial committee.

An independently appointed panel would decide on the outcome for the players, but no date had yet been set, NZME reported.

In 2009, an ugly brawl was witnessed in an Auckland premier 1A schoolboy semi-final between Auckland Grammar and Kelston Boys' High.

A raft of suspensions were handed out to players from both teams.

A judicial hearing in Christchurch this week will deal with an incident in an under-16 match in Christchurch. It's understood punches were thrown before a spectator allegedly slapped a referee when the St Bede's College and Shirley Boys' High School under-16 B teams faced off on Wednesday afternoon.
