A 10-year-old Hastings girl is nursing minor injuries after being struck by a car while running away from a dog.
Police said the girl was walking to school in Flaxmere at about 8.20am on Friday when she was frightened by a dog running along the footpath.
She ran onto the road where she was hit by the car.
The girl was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital's emergency department for treatment but was not admitted.
Police said while the dog had frightened the girl, it had not behaved aggressively toward her.
