Kiwi comedian Rhys Darby touring New Zealand in 2017

Peacock Season, Love Birds, Thunderbirds Are Go, Harvey Beaks – and of course, Flight Of The Conchords.

Scroll down his filmography on IMDb and you'll find there's definitely something of an avian theme to Rhys Darby's acting CV. He even voiced a penguin on kids' TV show Jake And The Never Land Pirates.

Now, returning home and to the stand-up comedy that first started him on the road to fame, the Kiwi comedian is once again taking wing in his new show, Rhys Darby: Mystic Time Bird, which will take in 17 towns and cities around the country, from Whangarei to Invercargill in July and August next year..

Before they were famous: Rhys Darby

From the absurd to the downright silly, Darby's stand-up routines typically run the full gamut of ridiculousness.

In Mystic Time Bird, he turns to the world of ancient mysticism to find answers to the world's problems and, in doing so, discovers that he was a bird in a past life.

Darby also promises to address big questions like "Are we truly free in this day and age? Or is alien technology guiding us into an even greater trap?" No doubt accompanied by all the usual weird movements and sound effects.

The 42-year-old comedian became a household name after starring in the US TV show Flight Of The Conchords.

Now based in Los Angeles, he regularly performs stand-up around the world and has starred in several international TV shows such as The X Files, Netflix's Voltron and TVNZ's Short Poppies.

Darby will also be seen next year in the new Jumanji movie with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
